A Little Bit About Me

Hi, my name is Kathleen!
I am an instructor at a community college and pharmacy technician from British Columbia. I live work and play on the traditional territories of the Sinixt, the Syilx, the Ktunaxa, and the Secwépemc Peoples. I have been teaching in the Pharmacy Technician Program for 4 years, as well as working in acute care pharmacy for over 18 years.
My Teaching Story
In 2006, I began my career as a pharmacy assistant. In 2012, I became a regulated pharmacy technician in B.C. Since then, I have had the opportunity to preceptor pharmacy technician students and train new hires in acute care pharmacy practice.
In 2018, I started working as an instructional assistant at the local community college in the Pharmacy Technician Institutional Dispensing and Sterile Product Preparation lab. In 2021, I was given the opportunity to teach as an instructor in this lab and continue to teach this lab and other courses in the Pharmacy Technician Diploma program.

Key area of pharmacy practice that I teach include:
- Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology.
- Pharmaceutical Calculations
- Technology in Pharmacy Practice
- Institutional Pharmacy Practice
- Sterile Product Preparation Utilizing NAPRA’s Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding
- Hospital Pharmacy Experiential Learning
Passion
Mentoring pharmacy technician students on their journey to become regulated healthcare professionals.
Goals
My goal is to not only guide students on the roles and responsibilities of a regulated pharmacy technician, but to help students apply safe and inclusive patient-centered care into their practice.
Teaching Rewards
What I love most about teaching is engaging with my students and having the opportunity to learn from them. My students teach me how to adapt to their unique learning styles, excitement of working in the pharmacy field, patience, and empathy.,
About This Site
This site will represent trends in pharmacy technician practice and pharmacy, as well as in healthcare education. As the scope of practice of a pharmacy technician changes it is important that as a healthcare professionals and educators, we stay informed of new requirements including those that support patient safety, diversity, and equity, and inclusion.
